Protect and Preserve Patient Access to Medicare

The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) is a 15 member, unelected, unaccountable board that would have unprecedented power to replace congressional authority to make Medicare policy. The AADA and the physician community have opposed IPAB since its creation under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). By moving authority over Medicare from Congress to an unelected, unaccountable board, representatives in Congress would have little or no ability to advocate for the needs of their own constituents should IPAB make a policy decision that threatens access to care.  In the coming weeks, Medicare spending is expected to reach levels that would trigger future mandatory spending cuts under IPAB.
